Artist Statement
My work centers on transforming stories, ideas, and emotions into visual form through highly detailed compositions that communicate beyond the image itself. Inspired by historical artworks, classical sculpture and carving, photography, and biblical narratives, I create drawings that merge these influences into a visual language shaped through realism, texture, light, and shadow.
I primarily work with graphite and charcoal, using the contrast between the two materials to build both structure and unpredictability within each piece. Graphite allows for control, clarity, and precision, while charcoal introduces raw texture, depth, and atmosphere. Through layering, erasure, and refinement, I aim to carve realism from shifting tones and loose marks—resolving abstraction into lifelike form.
Faith plays a central role in my work. The Gospels, in particular, carry a depth and conviction that I find profoundly compelling—stories so powerful that those who witnessed them were willing to suffer and die rather than deny what they believed to be true. While my expression exists through art rather than sacrifice in that same physical sense, I approach each drawing with commitment through time, discipline, and process, often spending months on a single piece as a way of honoring and translating these narratives into visual form.
When someone encounters my work, I hope it sparks curiosity—not only toward the image itself, but toward the meaning, process, and origins behind it. I want viewers to look beyond realism alone: to notice the intentional marks, the tension between control and unpredictability, and the deeper narratives embedded within the drawing. In that way, each piece becomes more than representation; it becomes an invitation to look deeper.
